case study - Stress Incontinence

Assessment of the Effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT) and Extracorporeal Magnetic Innervation (ExMI) in Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence in Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial

  • ExMI group performed better than the Control group (no therapy) and Pelvic Floor Manual Therapy (PFMT) group in resolving UI symptoms.
  • In over 40% of the ExMI group, their depression symptoms were completely eliminated after therapy.
  • Higher self-efficacy beliefs were observed in the experimental group that received ExMI.
  • Comparative analysis of the three study groups showed that ExMI was statistically significant regarding differences in the quality of life at the final assessment in the following domains: “physical limitations,” “social limitations,” “personal relationships,” and “emotions.”
  • The results of these studies showed that ExMI causes a downregulation of myostatin concentration within the pelvic floor muscles of elderly women, allowing those muscles to reverse atrophy, grow new fibers and build bulk for strength. ExMI can reduce the severity and often cure urinary incontinence.
